Several protesters injured in troops’ firing in IHK

Srinagar, January 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, several people including a teenager were injured when Indian troops opened fire on a peaceful march protesting against recent indiscriminate firing on civilians by the troops in Pulwama. Indian troops and police personnel used brute force and fired bullets and teargas shells on the protesters, who took to the streets shouting “We want freedom” and “Go India go” slogans.

Earlier, APHC leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash addressing the protest demonstration at Lalchhipore in the area urged the international community to impress upon India to withdraw its troops from the occupied territory. Later, police arrested the two leaders when they were on their way to express solidarity with the families of a martyred youth in Shopian.

Hurriyet leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Agha Syed Hasan Al-Moosvi Al-Safawi in their separate statements in Srinagar and the APHC AJK chapter in a meeting in Islamabad denounced the Indian firing on peaceful civilians in Pulwama. They called upon the world community to take cognisance of the continued ongoing Indian state terrorism against the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The chairman of Democratic Political Movement, Firdous Ahmad Shah in a statement in Srinagar hoped that 2013 would mark a considerable progress on the Kashmir dispute and that the internal conditions would force New Delhi to shun its obduracy.

On the other hand, Indian troops in their unabated acts of state-terrorism martyred 17 Kashmiris including a child, during the outgoing month of December 2012. According to the data compiled by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, 41 persons were subjected to severe torture and the same number of civilians was arrested. Meanwhile, during the year 2012, Indian troops killed 118 innocent Kashmiris including 5 women and 7 children.
