Pakistan Advances Efforts to Establish Itself as a Regional Transit Hub

Islamabad: Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced that the government is intensifying its efforts to position Pakistan as a regional logistics and transit hub. He made this statement while presiding over a high-level meeting held in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting aimed to identify priority infrastructure projects that would connect Pakistan with the Middle East, Central Asia, China, and other regions. The Minister emphasized the importance of aligning Pakistan’s development agenda with the connectivity needs of partner countries to facilitate this transition.

The Minister also revealed plans to create a joint working group that will include representatives from the maritime, communications, railways, and defense ministries. This group is tasked with producing a shortlist of feasible projects during its inaugural meeting next week.

Additionally, discussions during the meeting focused on integrating key national ports-Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and Gwadar Port-with regional transport corridors. This integration will be facilitated through enhanced rail, road, and air networks, further solidifying Pakistan’s role as a crucial transit hub in the region.
