Islamabad: Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has called for a technology alliance between Pakistan and ASEAN to promote inclusive prosperity. Addressing the ASEAN-Pakistan Technology Expo in Islamabad, he emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to a future driven by innovation and technology. He articulated a vision of transforming Pakistan into a knowledge economy that empowers its youth, strengthens industries, and fosters regional cooperation.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal highlighted the value Pakistan places on its partnership with ASEAN, recognizing the potential for deeper ties in science, technology, and innovation. He proposed the creation of a Pakistan-ASEAN technology cooperation forum to identify collaborative projects and share innovations. He suggested that joint academic programs, student and faculty exchanges, and dual degree programs would enhance cross-cultural innovation.
The minister stressed the importance of establishing ASEAN-Pakistan centers of excellence in fields such as Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, renewable energy, and climate-smart agriculture. He encouraged industries to co-develop products and prototypes tailored to the needs of the global South.
Ahsan Iqbal also pointed out the potential for Pakistan and ASEAN to collaborate on low carbon technologies, circular energy models, and climate-resilient tools, urging a focus on technology that promotes social inclusion.
