Workers to register themselves with Employees Old age benefits institution: Chairman

Karachi, November 14, 2012 (PPI-OT): Chairman EOBI Zafar Iqbal Gondal requested the working community to register themselves in EOBI for securing their future. Mr. Zafar Iqbal Gondal said EOBI provides Old Age Pension, survivors Pension and Invalidity Pension to the registered workers as well as benefits of WWF are also available to the employees/employers registered with EOBI thus holding it Registration Card.

He further said that families of registered workers are entitled to receive death grant from WWF on the demise of their bread earner. EOBI has also opened its registration for self- employed, home based workers and common people who are not associated with any employer, but want to be registered on their own. They will be required to pay contributions to the Employees Old Age Benefit Institution and get pension after reaching the age of 60 and 55.

He said the Government had taken revolutionary steps for working class and EOBI pensioners. The minimum pension had been raised from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,600 per month, he added. This is to mention that EOBI’s efforts to facilitate pensioners has been praised by International Labour Organization, UNDP and Asian Development Bank (ADB)

Speaking at the occasion DG Operations Mr. Javed Iqbal said that “EOBI has adopted the Easy Paisa service to facilitate the payment of pension to senior citizens, disabled people and widows.”He added that self-employed person could also register themselves with EOBI by paying their own contribution @ Rupees 480 per month and get these benefits from more than 80 Regional and Field offices across the country.

Chairman EOBI urged that all the employees of EOBI should expedite their efforts to provide fully facilitated benefits to the poor, deserving industrial and commercial workers.
