White Ribbon Media Awards: Journalists Rewarded For Gender-Sensitive Reporting

White Ribbon Campaign Pakistan (WRCP) held Media Awards during its 2nd National Conference on Gender and Media in Islamabad on March 08, 2013 to commemorate the International Women’s Day.

These awards recognize the highest standards of excellence in gender sensitive reporting in print, broadcast, radio and photography.  Media entries were in both Urdu and English.

Winning entries were based on clarity of message, accuracy and technical adeptness.  The overall message was based on gender sensitive reporting as a resource tool for media professionals to help them change the stereotypical reporting usually practiced in Pakistan. Awards were given to journalists who take concrete steps to ensure that women were given due representation in the media. This change highlights the significant role that journalists play in Pakistan in shaping mindsets.

Around 100 journalists participated in the competition announced by the WRCP in December. Awards were presented to 27 journalists from all over the country and were given in the categories of print, broadcast and photo journalism.
