UNGA committee’s resolution on Kashmir welcomed

Srinagar, November 24, 2016 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, General Secretary of Pairwan-e-Willayat, Agha Syed Yasoob Moosvi has welcomed the unanimous resolution passed by a committee of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), in the 193-member Assembly reaffirming the universal realization of the right to self determination of Kashmiris.

Agha Syed Yasoob Moosvi in a statement issued in Srinagar commended the Government of Pakistan for its persistent diplomatic efforts in introducing the resolution which was co-sponsored by 72 countries.

He said resolving Kashmir was the legal, constitutional and moral responsibility of the United Nations and that peace and progress would elude South Asia until the final settlement of Kashmir dispute.

Meanwhile, Sikh organization Dal Khalsa in its statement in Srinagar hailed the UN General Assembly (UNGA) committee resolution reaffirming that the universal realisation of people’s right to self-determination was a fundamental condition for the effective guarantee and observance of human rights.

Dal Khalsa and its allied group ‘Sikh Federation UK’ urged the UN Secretary General and the Human Rights Council to give special attention to the violations of human rights especially India’s denial of the right to self-determination. The Dal Khalsa President, Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema and spokesman Kanwar Pal Singh termed the development as a positive step as it gives a ray of hope to all the struggling peoples that aspire to get freedom.

They said like the citizens of Quebec and Scotland, New Delhi should also give chance to people of Kashmir and Punjab to decide their destiny by holding referendum.

Appreciating the efforts of Pakistan in tabling the resolution, they said the resolution if endorsed by the General Assembly would give voice to the yearning for freedom in Asia and across the world.
