Uncontrolled traffic and transport system biggest issue – Minister for Transport

Peshawar: Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Transport, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said the biggest problem of provincial capital was the uncontrolled traffic and transport system which was mainly due to enormous increase in population, narrowness of roads, squares and defective system of issuing driving licences.

These view he expressed at the inaugural ceremony of automatic wireless traffic system at Abdara Chowk in Peshawar on Saturday.

Minister for Information Technology, Muhammad Ayub Khan, Chairperson for Standing Committee on Science & Technology and Information Technology Yasmin Zia, MPA Munawar Sultana, Secretary IT Muhammad Humayun Khan and Managing Director IT Board Amjad Shahid Afridi were also present on this occasion.

The Minister was informed on this occasion that the new traffic signal system would enable the traffic police to apply signals while sitting on the road sides. This system would be introduced at all squares of Peshawar.

The Minister appreciated the university students for devising this system adding that it was a welcome step. He said the government would extend all out support to talented students.

Mian Iftikhar on this occasion regretted that unlawful plazas were being constructed without making provision for car parking and service roads were being used on parking.

He directed the concerned authorities to take care of pedestrians specially students, women and elderly people in the next plan. He revealed that driving licence system would be given to transport department and hoped that driving licence system would be made transparent.
