Srinagar, April 09, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani expressing concern over the worsening human rights situation in occupied Kashmir has deplored that the United Nations is indifferent to what is happening to the Kashmiris.
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani in a statement issued in Islamabad said that the people of Kashmir had been left at the mercy of the Indian armed forces, amplifying the sense of insecurity in the territory.
He said that the growing indifference of the United Nations towards the Kashmiris had encouraged India to crush the liberation struggle with full force and military might. He feared that this would lead to more bloodshed in the territory.
Rehmani complained that New Delhi had intensified its crackdown on Hurriyet leaders and activists. “They are being detained, placed under house arrest and awarded life imprisonment for demanding right to self-determination,” he added.
Muhammad Farooq Rehmani appealed to the United Nations and other world powers to prevail upon India to restore fundamental human rights including right to speech and right to free movement in the territory.
