Istanbul – The Republic of Turkey, in its capacity as the Chair of the Islamic Summit, will host for one day the First OIC Member States’ Conference on Mediation under the theme of Surge in Mediation – The Role of the OIC on Tuesday in Istanbul.
The Conference is the first of its kind, showcasing OIC’s institutional role in mediation and conflict resolution, its comparative advantage, best practices and success stories. The event is co-organized with the General Secretariat of the OIC.
The event will deliberate on inter alia, OIC’s role in mediation as enshrined in the Charter and by-laws, contemporary conflict situations confronting the member states, political and economic dynamics of the conflicts, humanitarian dimension of conflicts in the member states, challenges in fostering inter-cultural and inter-religious harmony, conflict situations in countries with Muslim minorities, and challenges in preventive diplomacy.
The Conference will also deliberate on the newly established OIC Contact Group on Peace and Conflict Resolution and the initiative of Turkey and Kazakhstan on Islamic Rapprochement. Its (The event) is expected to set guidelines for further enhancing OIC’s role in mediation.
The Conference will be attended by the OIC member states as well as international and regional organizations.
