University College Lahore Students Take Top Honours at International Law Moot Court Competition

Islamabad, February 20, 2018 (PPI-OT): A team of law students from University College Lahore took the top prize at the U.S. Embassy-sponsored Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Tassaduq Hussain Jillani was the chief judge for the finals.

The Pakistan College of Law Lahore team was named runner-up, and Quaid-e-Azam Law College Lahore finished third.The top three teams will travel to Washington, D.C. in April to compete in the finals against law students from 95 countries.

The 2017-2018 season marks the 59th year of the Jessup Competition and the third year that Pakistan has participated.This year, 117 Pakistanis from 21 law schools took part in a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations.

With participants from over 645 law schools in 95 countries, the Jessup is the world’s largest moot court competition. The four-day event was sponsored by the U.S Embassy’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development Assistance and Training (OPDAT).

National Bank of Pakistan wins eight Corporate Social Responsibility Awards

Karachi, February 20, 2018 (PPI-OT): National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) bagged eight awards at the two prestigious CSR Summit and Award ceremonies, organized in Karachi and Islamabad respectively. Impressed by NBP’s vision and implementation of CSR activities, the two organizations; National Forum for Health and Environment (NFEH) and The Professionals Network (TPN) unanimously acknowledged NBP’s valuable contribution in diversified categories.

National Bank of Pakistan won a total of eight coveted awards, it bagged four awards at Islamabad in the variant categories, featuring sports and cultural support, cause advocacy and awareness campaign, best services in health and education, as well as the first of its kind category, ‘Best CSR Manager of the Year’ which was also won by NBP during the seventh edition of International CSR Summit and Awards, and CSR Gallery jointly organized by The Professionals Network (TPN) and Ethical Business Update (EBU).

Mr. Ovais Asad Khan, EVP and Wing Head CSR received the award on behalf of the organization during a ceremony held in Islamabad on January 18, 2018. He said, “It is a great privilege to be recognized on such a dynamic platform, after being at the forefront of perpetual CSR efforts in Pakistan,” saying the recognition was yet another milestone for National Bank of Pakistan in its endeavour to enhance the quality of life for all.

Subsequently, NBP won four awards at the tenth edition of NFEH’s CSR Summit and Awards held in Karachi, within the categories of sports and recreational activities, corporate leadership, best CSR manager for the year 2017 as well as for women welfare, empowerment and development. Governor Sindh Mr. Muhammad Zubair was invited as the chief guest at the 7th International CSR Summit, Awards and CSR Gallery and distributed awards amongst winners in various categories in Karachi on January 25, 2018.

Minister education takes notice of falling classroom ceiling

Karachi, February 20, 2018 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Education and Literacy Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, while taking notice of falling classroom ceiling of class one of Government Girls Primary School at village Khairpur Juso district Qambar-Shahdadkot that resulted injuries to around 20 students and their teacher, has directed to Director Education concerned to probe into the incident that why the classes were being conducted when the building was already declared dangerous.

He prayed early recovery of the students and their teacher and termed the incident as carelessness and negligence of the headmistress and officers concerned. He added, ‘When clear directives have been issued not to conduct classes in dangerous buildings and if the building is dangerous then the classes should be conducted in open place or to be shifted to nearest school’. He said that in all cases the safety of the students must be ensured and action would be taken against those who were involved in negligence.
