Karachi, May 04, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Task Force of SSGC’s Customer Relations Department conducted two massive raids against illegal use of natural gas on May 2, 2015 in the two localities of Karachi. The teams conducted raids in Micasa apartments located in Essa Nagri in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 12 and Abdullah Goth Extension on National Highway. The Task Force’s disconnection efforts got a major boost from the presence of the police contingent from the recently launched SSGC Police Station.
The team disconnected more than 170 illegal domestic connections at Micasa Apartments and more than 1,200 domestic connections at Abdullah Goth Extension. The culprits were found using gas directly through rubber pipes from SSGC’s distribution main line. Since both the areas have a history of volatile law and order situation, SSGC’s Police Station backed up the operation by providing security blanket to the Task Force. The raiding party also confiscated rubber pipes and accessories used in both the theft cases.
According to an estimate, gas worth 7,803 and 5,580 Million cubic feet were being stolen from Micasa Apartments and Abdullah Goth localities. Cumulatively, Rs. 17.48 million was being stolen in both the localities on yearly basis. Four persons, instrumental in providing those illegal connections, were also arrested from the spot. FIRs were also lodged against arrested culprits as per ‘Clause #426 of Criminal Law Amendment Act 2011’.
