Karachi, January 23, 2019 (PPI-OT): Sindh Health and Population Welfare Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho had a meeting along with speaker Sindh Assembly and other parliamentarians with Stop TB and the TB Control Program here in Sindh Assembly Building today. The meeting was organized on request of STOP TB Pakistan and more than 30 members of Sindh Assembly attended it.
Stop TB Pakistan presented to the legislators the TB situation in Sindh and the expectation from the political leadership to End TB. Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho endorsed the process of developing a multi-sectoral responsibility framework to end TB in line with the agreement signed by the member states at United Nations General Assembly High Level TB Meeting held on 26th September, 2018.
Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr. Azra Pechuho urged fellow parliamentarians to join hands with the health department and civil society organizations STP to actively participate in curbing TB. She advised formation of parliamentary SGD caucus.
Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, deputy speaker Rehana Laghari, fellow parliamentarians, USAID Representative, National TB Program, Director TB Control Sindh and representatives of STOP TB and public sector were present at the occasion.
Parliamentarians acknowledged the efforts of Sindh Government and assured their full support. They recognized the need for an integrated approach at district level, engaging all sectors, civil administration and the civil society.
She urged technical and development partners to come forward and assist the government. Speaker, while concluding the meeting stressed upon the role of the members in their respective constituencies. He emphasized on the need of a monitoring framework for the parliamentarians.
