Seven districts of upper Sindh badly affected by rain in 2012

Karachi, December 14, 2012 (PPI-OT): The spokesman of Irrigation Department has informed that during the rain of 2012, seven districts of upper Sindh were badly affected among those Jacobabad was the worst effected district fifteen Union Councils of District Jacobabad were under rain water during the heavy downpour in the month of September, 2012. He said by the Grace of God 95% – 99%, rain water is evacuated through Dewatering Pumps from thirteen Union Councils out of fifteen Union Councils.

He informed that all efforts has been taken by the department including installation of dewatering pumps in two union council(s) which are still in operation round “O” clock, and 80% water has been evacuated from remaining two union councils and hope fully 100% evacuation will be completed with in 10 days.

The spokesman said that there is no drainage net work is available in District Jacobabad and because of paddy crop area the water level is already high which causes slow dispose of the stagnant rain water.

Numbers of villages and lands of different Union Councils of Taluka Jacobabad have been evacuated and the majority of the peoples of these villages are returning to their villages/homes and approximately 90% villagers have been returned to their homes. It is also a ground reality that the growers of these villages are sowing Rabi Crop in different portions of their agricultural lands where from stagnant rain water has been evacuated, spokesman added.

It is worth while mentioning here that the Irrigation growers will harvest their crop of Kharif season 2013 and will achieve results, the spokesman concluded.
