Road Checking Campaign: Rs. 54 crore tax collected: Mukesh Kumar Chawla

Karachi, November 01, 2018 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla has said that due to on -going Road Checking Campaign, so far collectively Rs. 54 crores have been collected while till 30th October as many 15252 vehicles have been checked, 777 vehicles impounded and documents of 1231 vehicles were seized. This he said while presiding over a meeting here in his office on today.

Secretary Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Abdul Rahim Shaikh, Director Generals Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Director Admin Syed Sibten and other officers attended the meeting. While briefing the meeting, Director General Excise and Taxation Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh told that the Road Checking Campaign to nab the tax defaulting vehicles was launched on 22nd October and due to this campaign a large number of people rushed to motor vehicle registration offices across the province, adding that he said that in Karachi motor registration offices from 19th October to 30th October Rs.467755867 were deposited in term of taxes by the people.

It was also briefed to the meeting that Rs. 60141245 were deposited in motor registration offices other than Karachi offices. DG E and T Shabbir Ahmed Shaikh added, ‘Till 30th October as many 15252 vehicles have been checked during Road Checking Campaign while 777 vehicles have been impounded and the documents of 1232 vehicles have been seized and Rs.12797879 were collected in term of taxes and fines’.

Provincial minister for ET and NC and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla said that November 1st was the last day of Road Checking Campaign and he was really thankful to the cooperation of the people during the campaign and expressed his hope that till the launching of next Road Checking Campaign the remaining tax defaulting vehicles’ owners would deposit their due taxes. He also appreciated the good performance of the Sindh Excise Department during the campaign and assured them that they would be rewarded accordingly.
