Lahore, March 15, 2017 (PPI-OT):Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting here today to review progress of the program of making the youth skillful as per needs of the market. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that provision of technical education to the youth is proving helpful for their empowerment. He said that skilled manpower plays a vital role in strengthening the economy and that is why, Punjab government has focused on the preparation of skilled manpower.
He said that thousands of youth have been made skilful under Skill Development Programme and they are earning a respectable livelihood. He said the provincial government is proceeding at the fast track towards imparting technical skill to two million youth by 2018 and provision of technical education is resulting in elimination of joblessness and property. Shehbaz Sharif said that all concerning departments should play an effective role in the provision of technical education to the youth and a plan be evolved in two weeks in this regard.
He said it is need of the hour to benefit from the opportunities in agriculture, livestock and other sectors. He said small businesses are the backbone of the economy and effective measures should be taken for the promotion of small and medium scale business. He said that third party validation of training courses under skill development programme is also necessary.
He said that Punjab government is providing interest free loans to the youth to start their businesses under Self Employment Scheme. Provincial Ministers Sheikh Allauddin, Naghma Mushtaq, Dr. Ijaz Nabi, Dr. Umer Saif, Chief Secretary, Chairman P and D, Chairman TEVTA, MD PVTC, concerned secretaries and senior officials were also present on the occasion.
