President lauds legal fraternity’s role

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the country’s legal fraternity has always played an active and pivotal role in defending democracy and democratic institutions in the country and that present government will continue to extend full cooperation and facilitation to the lawyers community in the pursuit of their professional duties.

The President said this while addressing the meeting of Punjab Bar Council headed by Vice Chairman Ghulam Abbas Naswana at the Governor House Lahore that was also attended by elected representatives of Pakistan Bar Council, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, Lahore Tax Bar Association and various district Bar Associations of Punjab.

Delegation of Punjab Bar Council and representatives of various Bar associations and councils present in the meeting appreciated the government’s initiatives for the welfare of the lawyers community in the country and assured that lawyer community would support the government in its endeavours to strengthen democracy and rule of law in the country.

The President appreciated lawyer community’s struggle for rule of law, restoration of constitution and democracy in the country.

The President on the occasion said Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gave nation unanimous constitution of 1973 and PPP restored it and gave respect to constitutional institutions.

The President said that the present government was committed to support the bar association and urged for expediting all the initiatives aimed at the welfare of the lawyer community.

Governor Punjab, Sardar Latif Khosa, Senator Jahangir Badar, Mr. Aslam Gill, Imtiaz Safdar Waraich, Ms Fouzia Wahab, Ms Rukhsana Bangash, Ms Fouzia Habib and Raja Riaz Ahmad were also present.
