Islamabad, August 06 2013 (PPI-OT): Mr.Zubair Ahmed Malik President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has attended the Inter-ministerial meeting for preparation of a high level visit from Afghanistan organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Islamabad.
Aims of the Inter-ministerial meeting were to prepare trade and economic cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan. During the meeting President FPCCI strongly showed concern of the Business Community on Questionable formation of the Pakistan-Afghanistan Joint Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI).
Mr.Zubair Ahmed Malik said that this body has been formed not as a result of an agreement between the national chambers of Pakistan and Afghanistan; but rather as an agreement between the national chamber of Afghanistan and three district-level chambers from Pakistan.
He further stated that it is extremely unfortunate that this body claims to have been formed with the patronage of British High commission, and we sincerely believe that any funding by the High Commission or any other foreign agency directed towards this joint chamber would be inappropriate, and would certainly lead to complications of great magnitude.
President FPCCI Mr.Zubair Ahmed Malik stressed that such activities should be carried out under the umbrella of FPCCI which is the apex body of all the chambers and associations in the country. There are over 120 chambers and associations of Pakistan who have representation on the Executive Committee of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI). This point was appreciated by all the participants.
The meeting was chaired by the Foreign Secretary and also attended by high official from Government and private sector representative
