Islamabad: Federal Minister for Water and Power, Syed Naveed Qamar has said that the reforms in power sector will improve the efficiency of the power distribution companies and the government has approved a plan in this regard.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of CEOs of power distribution companies held here today to review the recovery and other allied matters. Secretary, MD CPPA, JS power and CEOs of all the Discos attended.
He said that the reforms process will supplement the efforts of the government to end the energy crisis and various measures are being taken in the respect to enhance the power generation. He dispelled the impression that there will be massive changes in the organization set up after implementation of the reforms in the power sector.
He said that the government has proposed the reforms for betterment of the public sector power entities and it will improve their efficiency. The reforms will help to reduce the transmission and distribution losses, introduce corporate and friendly culture and capacity building of the employees.
While reviewing the recovery position, the Minister stressed the need for further improvement in the recovery. He also asked them to take stern action against the power theft. Mr. Qamar also asked all the companies to reduce their line losses and bring it to the minimum level.
He again directed the Discos to disconnect the supply of private and government consumers without any discrimination in case of non-payment of bills. The Minister stated that there should be no complaints of inflated bills by the consumers and the officials involved should be taken to task.
The field staff may be asked to adopt friendly attitude with the consumers, he added. Earlier, the CEOs of the Discos briefed the Minister on various issues.
