Post-election protests put Kyrgyzstan on brink of revolt

In Kyrgyzstan, people protesting the results of a parliamentary election have taken over the government and security headquarters in capital Bishkek today.

They set the building that houses both the president and parliament on fire. Later they broke into the headquarters of State Committee on National Security and freed former president Almazbek Atambayev.

Meanwhile, opposition groups appointed their own acting head of national security and named a commandant of Bishkek.
