People’s respect for army has reduced: Indian Minister

Srinagar, June 16, 2016 (PPI-OT):Indian Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, has said that Indian soldiers are facing immense difficulties because people’s respect for the army has reduced. Manohar Parrikar said this while addressing a seminar in Jaipur. The army’s importance has diminished because the country hasn’t gone to battle in the past 40-50 years, he said.

He said that Indian soldiers were facing immense difficulties because people’s respect for the army had reduced during peacetime. Manohar Parrikar said that two generations of officers had retired without seeing a war, but that didn’t mean the army should not command the respect it deserves.
