OIC urged to help stop killings in Kashmir, Burma

Srinagar, March 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani and the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take practical steps to stop oppression by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir and genocide of Muslims in Burma.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar said that the OIC was a representative forum of all the Islamic countries and Muslims across the world had high expectations from it.

“We appeal the OIC to move beyond the rhetoric of passing resolutions in favour of Muslims who are facing oppression across the world and do some practical work on ground. The resolutions passed by the OIC so far in favour of Afghanistan, Syria, Palestine, Iraq and Jammu and Kashmir have not changed anything on ground,” he added.

The veteran leader called upon the OIC to take serious note of human rights violations including arrests of youth, children and leaders and the use of pepper gas on protesters by Indian troops in the territory. He urged the Muslim representative body to also look into the genocide of Muslims in Burma.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement also expressed serious concern over the systematic ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Burma.

“The Burmese government’s inaction to stop the Buddhist onslaught on minority Rohignya Muslims is tantamount to a heinous crime,” the Mirwaiz said and deplored the silence maintained by the OIC and international community over the genocide of Muslims.

He appealed to the OIC, UN, Amnesty International, International Committee of Red Cross, and other human rights groups to take serious note of violence against Muslims in Burma.
