OIC chief names Nebil Dabur of Turkey as new Director-General of SESRIC

Ankara Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen has appointed Nabil Dabur, a Turkish national born in the Palestinian city of Gaza, as the new Director General of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) as of 27 March 2019.

Dabur, who succeeds former Director General Ambassador Musa Kulaklikaya, jointed SESRIC in 1996 and served first as an economist, then from 2005 as Director of Economic and Social Research Department, and later, from 2015 to 2019, as Assistant Director-General.

He has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Birzeit University in Ramallah, Palestine and an MSc in Economics from the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey, in 1993.

During his 23 years of service at SESRIC, Dabur has accumulated extensive professional experience in both the work of the OIC and its institutions, as well as in the socio-economic development affairs of the OIC member states.

Following his appointment, he stated that the Ankara-based SESRIC will continue its efforts and contribution to promoting socio-economic development for the OIC countries and facilitating cooperation in various fields.

Dabur reiterated that SESRIC as the main socio-economic research body of the OIC would continue to improve the quality of its policy-oriented research work, particularly on regular background reports and studies, submitted to relevant OIC fora, especially to the various sectoral ministerial conferences of the Organization. He affirmed that, under his leadership, SESRIC will follow a more focused and result-oriented approach in implementing its activities and target outcome to generate a greater impact.

Dabur also reassured that SESRIC will continue to introduce and implement a wide range of new activities and programs in its areas of competences, in order to strengthen its role as a facilitator toward the realization of the noble objectives of the OIC, particularly enhancing cooperation, unity and solidarity, in addition to ensuring sustainable development, progress and prosperity of the member countries and the Islamic Ummah at large.
