Karachi, 02 November 2011 – Leading Pakistani entrepreneurs, corporate heads, consultants and other speakers and panellists at the 3rd Lahore Management & HRD Summit organized by the Nutshell Forum, highlighted the need for good governance and strong leadership in the country at all levels, in order to harness the huge potential Pakistan possesses in several areas, including its human resource.
While the speakers and panellists covered a range of topics relating to HR, management and leadership for the future, the common thread across most of the speeches and presentations was the call to bring about good governance, transparency and accountability, especially at the government level. Speakers believed this will then automatically enable the private sector to ‘do more’ for the country’s growth and development.
Muhammad Azfar Ahsan, CEO of Nutshell Forum and the driving force behind the Summit, spoke passionately about his work in regularly organizing such knowledge-sharing and discussion forums on key issues facing the country. “Bringing together thought-leaders on one platform for discussion, sharing of information and experiences and proposing solutions to the problems that face our country is a very effective way of moving forward with constructive reforms. We cannot and should not think and work in our own bubbles; networking, debate and sharing of thoughts and ideas is an essential pre-requisite for development, inasmuch as it is an integral part of the democratic process,” he stated.
The theme of the Summit was ‘Shape the future of your organization through your people’, and it brought together thought-leaders from diverse sectors to provide invaluable insights into the way forward for Pakistan to come out of the present morass and work towards a better tomorrow. The Summit comprised an engaging programme which included keynote speeches, presentations, panel discussions and networking breaks. Prominent speakers included Shaukat Tarin, ex-federal finance minister and the chief guest at the inaugural session, the conference chairman and Nadeem Hussain, President & CEO Tameer Microfinance Bank.
Alan Gilmour, CEO and Principal, Gilmour Consulting UK, one of the panellists, put out a fresh perspective by stating that “it was not the role of HR to manage people but to manage managers who manage people!”
