Karachi, July 22, 2014 (PPI-OT): Acting President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Muhammad Idrees, while expressing deep concern over loss of precious lives due to a blast in CNG cylinder of a bus at Rashid Minhas Road, demanded that strict ban must be imposed on filling of CNG in those buses which are not bearing fitness certificates.
In a statement issued, Muhammad Idrees said that every day people are dying in such CNG blasts due to lack of maintenance by transporters but the concerned authorities are not paying any attention to this issue and lives of millions of people including men, women, children and senior citizens are at stake as they travel in these dilapidated buses every day.
Muhammad Idrees urged Prime Minister, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Acting IG Sindh, Ghulam Haider Jamali and other concerned Ministers of Sindh and Islamabad to take notice of the incident and order strict ban on filling of CNG in public transport which do not bear fitness certificate.
“Strict action must be taken against CNG stations and transporters who are caught red handed. In this regard, CNG stations found violating the ban should be sealed immediately whereas transporters must also be heavily penalized or sent to jail”, he added.
He said that strict mechanism must be introduced to check the quality and authenticity of CNG cylinders installed in public transport as it has been observed that many transporters have installed oxygen cylinders in their vehicles which pose serious threat to all passengers.
