Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health directs doctors to change behaviour while consulting patients

Peshawar, June 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): Spokesman of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Minister for Health, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai has strictly directed heads of all the hospitals of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to give VVIP treatment to the patients especially those injured in the bomb blasts and provide them better facilities and environment in the hospitals.

He gave these directives at the Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar on Wednesday where he was enquiring about the health of the Mardan suicide bomb blast injured. Secretary Health Abid Ali, Chief Executive LRH Dr. Arshad Javed, Director Information Bahramand Jan, senior doctors and other hospital staff were also present on the occasion. The minister directed the hospital administration to provide special wards to the bomb blast injured so that no hurdle could be noticed in their treatment.

The minister health stated that they wanted to have practical health facilities in the hospitals and not in papers. He said the patients were the main focus of the health policy and when the patients could not be provided facilities then there was no justification of establishing such a big department in the province. He said the provincial government had enhanced the health budget from Rs.7 billion to Rs. 8 billion.

The minister stated that education and health were the two priority sectors of the PTI government and the party chief Imran Khan was taking keen interest to develop both these sectors. He said working on the guidelines of Imran Khan they would go ahead of development in both the sectors. He said better reforms would be introduced in education and health and the same reforms would be made according to the wishes of the general masses as well.

Shaukat Ali Yousafzi said paucity of funds would not be taken as hurdle in the implementation of those reforms rather manifold increase would be made in the development budget of the same sectors. He called upon the doctors to change their bahaviour and attend the patients with open heart and good manners.

He warned that the doctors showing leniency in the treatment to the patients would be dealt with iron hands and would not be saved at any cost. He said the doctors should devote themselves towards the services of the ailing humanity and should bring positive changes in their pattern of consulting patients.

Earlier, during his visit to the casualty the minister health directed the concerned authorities to make the emergency facilities more effective and set up a separate counter for female patients. Moreover, he also directed for provision of more stretchers and other facilities in the emergency unit.
