Karachi, April 16, 2015 (PPI-OT): Modalities to outlet pending wheat stocks and develop strategy to increase the ongoing procurement of wheat crop, were discussed in the joint meeting of Provincial Food Department and Pakistan flour Mills Association (PFMA) presided over by The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah at CM House Karachi today.
The Sindh Minister for Food, Excise, Forest and Wildlife Giyan Chand Esrani, Secretary food Aftab Ahmed Memon, Director food Muhammad Bachal Rahpoto, Chairman Pakistan Flour Mills Association Mia Mehmood Hassan and other 6 members of his delegation attended the meeting and participated in deliberation.
The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah addressing the meeting said that instead of the losses in term of billion of rupees to Sindh Government due to import of 7 lac substandard wheat by Federal Government specially at the time when we were with surplus wheat the Sindh Government has raised the new price of wheat from Rs. 1250 to 1300 per 40. K.g and announced to procure 9 lac ton from current crop in the interest of growers.
He said after procurement of 9 lac ton we will have about 15 to 16 lac ton wheat in hand to dispose it. He said that Sindh Government consider the flour mills as effective tool to out let the wheat and decided to conceive a joint effective policy not only to achieve the targets of wheat outlet but save both side formers and government from losses.
During the discussion, the delegation from flour mills association placed some proposal which were appreciated by the Sindh Government and assured the delegation for consideration. During the discussion the Sindh Government once again up-held the Sindh cabinet decision and recommended Federal Government to procuring at least 4 lac ton wheat of current crop through PASCO.
So, that wheat procurement from Sindh could be raised. The Sindh Government also assured the delegation of PFMA for actively considering and asking to the Federal Government to provide total amount of subsidy to the Sindh Government, which they (Federal Government) agreed to provide $ 45 per ton for the export of 4 lac ton wheat so that pending wheat stock of Sindh Government be sold out at the rate of the local market by compensating losses instead of exporting the same even lower price of the local market. It was decided that hence forth the Provincial Food Department and PFMA to discuss and prepare joint policy suitable to all stake holders.
