Islamabad: Chairman Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan Mr. Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi has said that economic development of any country is directly linked with the protection of IP rights. We believe that intellectual property is critical for competitive global economies. He said that Pakistan has rich potential in all sectors, however there is dire need of efficient management of intellectual property in the country.
He expressed these view while talking with Mr. Olaf Kellerhoff, resident representative of Friedrich-Naumann-Stifting fur die Freiheit (FNF), a German Organization here today.
Executive Director IPO-Pakistan, Umer Dad Afridi and Director Legal Dr. Muhammad Khurram were also present during the meeting.
The Chairman said that basic vision of IPO-Pakistan is to place the Pakistan on the IP map of the world as a compliant and responsible country by promoting and protecting intellectual property rights. All possible measures are being taken to discourage piracy and counterfeiting in the country.
He informed that different strategies are being adapted to aware all segments of the society about IP Rights because general public is the main tool to counter the piracy and its worse impacts on other sectors of the economy. On this occasion, the Chairman informed the dignitary about ongoing initiatives and future plans of IPO-Pakistan.
Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi also informed about his recent participation in important session of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held at Geneva. He expressed the need to explore different ways and means to promote joint ventures through comprehensive strategic approach.
He hoped that FNF has strong working potential and IPO-Pakistan will please to extend cooperation to exchange knowledge and experiences with each other to set administrative and structural reforms in IP sector that has strong impacts on socio-eco development of our country.
Mr. Olaf Kellerhoff took keen interest in Intellectual Property sector of Pakistan. He desired to play affective role in different areas of IPR. Mr. Olaf while deliberating several activities in Pakistan, said that FNF promotes liberal democracy, respect for human rights, rule of law and economic freedom.
The foundation operates in more than 60 countries around the world, exchanging knowledge and experiences with civilians, NGO staff, academics, politicians and policy makers. He informed that in conjunction with its partner organizations, the foundation provides policy consultation as well as educational programs to create a more open world where people live freely and in peace.
