Srinagar, March 25, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police have arrested over a dozen youth including Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leaders from different areas of the territory. Two days after the Indian Home Ministry banned the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) led by Muhammad Yasin Malik, police arrested around half a dozen leaders including Bashir Ahmad Boya and Abdur Rasheed Mugloo from Baramulla, Ganderbal and southern districts in nocturnal raids, and even the hunt for others continues, a senior police officer said.
“Booking any of these arrested persons under the Public Safety Act (PSA) or for a long period will be decided after the background check of these persons is conducted,” the official said. “We are calling them to police stations but most of them don’t turn up,” he said. The official said from today onwards, the police will be assisting magistrates in sealing the offices and other locations of the JKLF.
Pertinently, in a major crackdown in February last week, over 400 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists were arrested in raids by the police across Kashmir. Several Jamaat leaders were later booked under the PSA.
On the other hand, Indian troops arrested Shahid Ahmad Butt, Ishfaq Ahmad Lone and Rayees Hurra from a passenger bus in Narbal along Srinagar–Baramulla highway while two more persons including a Junior Engineer, Manzoor Ahmad Itoo was booked under PSA and was shifted to Kot Bhalwal jail, Jammu.
The troops arrested, at least, seven youth during house raids at Arhama in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, last night. The detained youth were identified as Ishaq Ittoo, Merajuddin Mir, Arshad Lone, Shabbir Kulley, Ghulam Nabi Mir, Irfan Ittoo and Fayaz Ahmad Mir.
Meanwhile, Indian police arrested two Kashmiri youth who had gone to Pakistan two months ago on legal documents while returning. They were arrested at Lakhanpur in Kathua district while travelling in a passenger bus and were sent to Joint Interrogation Centre in Jammu.
