Hurriyet leaders, organizations remember Butt, Guru

Srinagar, February 11, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyet leaders and organizations continued to pay rich tributes to prominent Kashmiri martyred leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru during their meetings and statements as part of a three-day programme in connection with their martyrdom anniversaries.

Muhammad Maqbool Butt was hanged on the 11th of February in 1984 and Muhammad Afzal Guru on 9th February in 2013 in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

Hurriyet leaders Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Javed Ahmad Mir, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Syed Bashir Andrabi, Muhammad Sharif Sartaj, Democratic Political Movement, Islamic Political Party and APHC-AJK called upon the international community to put pressure on India for return of mortal remains of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Mohammad Afzal Guru from Delhi’s Tihar jail.

The Kashmir Freedom Front Chairman, Syed Bashir Andrabi said that 9th and 11 February were indelible days of the Kashmiris’ history when the two prominent sons of the soil sacrificed their lives for the noble cause of Kashmir.

APHC leader, Javaid Ahmed Mir reiterated the Kashmiris’ commitment to continue to demand the return of mortal remains of the martyrs.

A spokesman for the Democratic Political Movement vehemently condemned India’s highhandedness in the territory to prevent anti-India demonstrations on the martyrdom anniversaries of Butt and Guru.

The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League Chairman, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani while paying tributes to the martyrs denounced the Indian Foreign Ministry’s claim that Kashmir was its integral part and that the United States had not right to comment on the dispute. He said that Jammu and Kashmir continued to remain on the UN agenda since 1948.

On the hand, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference AJK-chapter at a meeting in Islamabad reaffirmed the Kashmiris’ pledge to continue the martyrs’ mission. The meeting was chaired by Syed Yousuf Naseem and addressed by Mir Tahir Masood, Hasan al Bana, Altaf Tufail Butt, Mirza Nisar, Abdul Majeed Malik, Muhammad Shafi Dar, Abdul Majeed Mir and others.

A protest demonstration organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front outside the UN office in Islamabad called upon the world body to put pressure on India to return the remains of the Kashmiri martyrs.
