Hindus can’t force Muslims to follow their faith: IOK Bar

Srinagar, September 20, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association has strongly denounced the Hindu extremist organization Vishva Hindu Parishad for threatening to enforce economic blockade of the Valley like 2008. Bashir Sidiq, General Secretary of the lawyers’ body in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “The Bar Association wants to convey to the VHP that without such a discussion, the Muslims of the territory will continue to eat beef as they have been doing in the past.” The Bar said it was of the firm belief that no one had the right to thrust one’s beliefs upon others.

“If Hinduism forbids eating of beef, it is for those who believe in Hinduism not to eat or sell the beef, but they cannot force the believers of other religion to follow their faith.” Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement Chairperson, Farida Behanji in a statement termed the VHP’s threat as a demonstration of Hindu fanaticism. She said that hurting the sentiments of Muslims had been the hobby of Hindu extremists.
