Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the government is expanding the scope of the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) and Workers Welfare Fund to ensure a larger number of employees and workers benefit from their services.
According to Radio Pakistan, during a discussion with Luc Triangle, Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation, in Islamabad, the Prime Minister highlighted that the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission, alongside various vocational training institutes at the provincial level, is conducting multiple training programs. These programs aim to equip the youth with market-oriented skills.
The Prime Minister also addressed the challenges faced by workers and laborers, noting that they have suffered significant employment-related losses due to climate change. He emphasized that Pakistan, along with other affected countries, will need special financial assistance from international financial institutions to tackle the issues arising from climate change.
Shehbaz Sharif stated that the government is committed to ensuring that climate adaptation and mitigation efforts in communities vulnerable to environmental risks also safeguard the livelihoods of economically disadvantaged groups.
The Secretary General of the International Trade Union Confederation commended Pakistan’s dedication to democratic values and appreciated the measures undertaken in the country for the welfare of workers and laborers.
