Srinagar, March 19, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has saluted the courage, resolve and steadfastness of the pro-freedom detainees languishing in different jails.
Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Kashmiri people would never forget sacrifices of the detainees. “Some pro-freedom leaders and activists are under detention for long time. Ghulam Qadir Butt completed 17 years in jail while Muhammad Ayub Dar, 16, Muhammad Amin Dar, 16 ½, Mehmood Topiwala, 16, Javid Ahmad Khan, 16, and Muhammad Ayub Mir, 12. I pay homage to them for their determination, courage and steadfastness,” he said.
He praised the courage and resolve of all the incarcerated pro-freedom leaders and activists including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Ayaz Akbar, Dr Shafi Shariati, Mir Hafizullah, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Rafiq Ganai, Malik Ghulam Nabi, Hakim Showkat Ahmad, Nasir Ahmad Khan, Moulvi Sajjad Ahmad, Bilal Ahmad Khan, Ghulam Muhammad Nago, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Muhammad Yousuf Falahi, Mir Hafizullah, Rayees Ahmad Mir, Nazir Ahmad Ahangar, Muhammad Shaban Khan, Sheikh Altafur-Rehman, Bashir Ahmad Qureshi and Fahmida Sofi.
The veteran leader pointed out that the Kashmiri detainees were subjected to political reprisal and harassment in jails. “They are tortured, provided substandard food and denied proper medical aid. They are not presented before courts for trial on the dates of hearing to prolong their detention,” he maintained.
Syed Ali Gilani said that Masarrat Aalam Butt and Mushtaq-ul-Islam continued to remain in jails despite court orders for their release. “After every court order for their release they are booked under draconian law, Public Safety Act. Till date they have been slapped PSA several times to ensure their continued detention,” he added.
