Karachi, January 12, 2013 (PPI-OT): Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan said that the directives of the Supreme Court must be follow for the verification of voters’ lists in Karachi.
He made these observations while presiding over a high-level meeting held on Friday at the Governor House in which federal and provincial ministers, city administration officials, Nadra authorities and the provincial election commission of Sindh were in attendance.
The governor said the advantage of the opportunity must be availed and those who did not belong to Pakistan needed to be identified. He said that the verification campaign would also be a good chance for new voters who have computerised CNICs to enlist themselves.
He highlighted that the PPP and the MQM were supporting the campaign and hoped that it would succeed. Sources said the governor shared some of his reservations about the verification campaign and about the enrolment of new voters, while the Provincial Election Commissioner Mehboob Anwar and others briefed Ebad about the method being exercised for the verification.
It was said that offices were setup in the Commissioner office and the Election Commission office to contact the election staff. The MNAs and MPAs also shared their reservations with the election commission and NADRA about the process of the computerised CNIC. DG Rangers also briefed the governor about security of the election commission staff.
Those who attended the meeting were Election Commissioner Sindh Mehboob Anwar, Nadra representative Tariq Malik, DG Rangers General Rizwan Akhtar, AIG Iqbal Mehmood, Commissioner Hashim Raza Zaidi and all five deputy commissioners.
