District Coordination Officer Karachi Instructs Action against Hoarders

Karachi: District Coordination Officer Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed has directed DDOs Revenue to carry on action against the hoarders and illegal profiteers of daily used items in their respective areas. All possible efforts should be made for providing the benefits of cheap flour scheme to poor and middle class.

He expressed these views while addressing a meeting regarding price control which was attended by the EDO Revenue Ghanor Leghari, Addl. EDO Revenue Matanat Ali Khan, District Officers and DDOs Revenue.

DCO Karachi instructed that surprised raids should be carried out in markets and Bachat bazars to control profiteering on town level. Action must be taken against all those traders who were involved in overpricing of daily utility items.

He said the rates of utility items used to be fixed with the consent of trader’s representatives; therefore, they must strictly implement it. If they do so, then there would be no action against them. DCO Karachi urged the deputy district officer’s revenue to play active role in controlling prices of daily utility items so that the people could be provided with more facilities during the holy month of Ramazan.

He directed them to impose fine on the shopkeepers if they were found selling daily utility items on above than the rates fixed by the government and send them to jail if they caught second time on the account of illegal profiteering. DCO Karachi said that the government had introduced cheap flour scheme in Ramazan-ul-Mubarak which is aimed to enable the poor and middle class to buy the flour on subsidized rates. He also instructed to make contact with the food department and flour mills and deliver cheap flour to low income areas of city.

“Every town should receive 8 to 10 trucks of flour bags on daily basis. Traders involved in illegal storage of cheap flour cannot escape legal action, therefore, they should bring the stored flour in market without delay,” he said.
