Rawalpindi, November 19, 2015 (PPI-OT):Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif met Senate Committee on Intelligence Senator Richard Burr and Feinstein noted that Pak Army’s perseverance and commitment had degraded militant Networks in Pakistan. Leadership of International Committee acknowledged that Pakistan has turned tide of terrorism and assured COAS of the US support and cooperation in eradicating terrorism and extremism.
COAS emphasized that terrorism is a global threat and warrants coordinated global response. Senate Armed Services Committee received COAS at Capitol Hill. Chairman Senate John McCain, Senator Jack Reed and senior senator members were present. Senator McCain appreciated efforts, sacrifices and steadfastness of Pakistan’s Armed Forces, specially COAS leadership in fighting terrorist Network on both sides of Pak-Afghan border.
Appreciating longstanding Pak-US defence cooperation, senator McCain emphasized need to further reinforce this partnership in view of emerging developments. With clear regional security perspective, COAS highlighted need for stepped up Pak-Afghan border management and sustained cooperation to deal with emerging threats.
