Karachi, August 02, 2013 (PPI-OT): Chairman, Pakistan Tanners Association, Mr. Agha Saiddain in a press statement appreciated the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet to impose ban on the export of live animals with effect from 1st October’2013 which is really encouraging and beneficial for the leather industry as this proposal of the tanning industry was long pending since last many years.
He said by putting the ban on live animals, the value added leather industry and allied industry can fetch more foreign exchange for the country by selling the byproducts of animals i.e. Blood, Bones, Hair/Wool, Sheep Casing, Processed Meat, Leather and Leather Products as well as to ensure availability of raw Hides and Skins for the tanning industry and meat and milk for the general public on reasonable prices.
Mr. Agha Saiddain pointed out that in the garb of permitted export of live animals its smuggling was also going on unabated at large scale causing acute shortage of raw material.
