Lahore, November 20, 2017 (PPI-OT):Our education system requires specialized curriculum, which should be market oriented following the model like Informational Technology University (ITU) the Punjab, which has better leadership and FAST. Prof Dr. Mohammad Nizamuddin, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission (HEC) while addressing the concluding session of the 9th International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICTD) Pakistan 2017 here today.
Dr. Nizamuddin said that there was a need to institutionalize reforms in the education sector through researchers and academia by promoting use of ICT for higher education sector. Endeavours should be made to conduct O and A level tests within Pakistan rather than depending on other countries, he added.
He further stated that only in the Punjab Province 6000 engineers were produced every year with 30% job opportunities and same was the number for doctors while other allied staff like technicians etc; were not being produced. Discussing the prospects of higher education the Chairman HEC while giving comparison of access to higher education informed that in Pakistan 9-10%, Bangladesh 23% and India 30% people have access to higher education.
He said that ICT has significantly contributed to health and primary education sectors, which needed to be extended to higher education as well. Private sector was gaining profits out of education activity and their quality was questionable. The four days 9th International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICTD) Pakistan 2017 attended by more than 200 researchers and academia from abroad was the first ever activity to bring Pakistan of the global IT radar.
