Karachi: Benazir Income Support Programme is the main social safety net mechanism established by the Government of Pakistan (GOP) to contribute to the alleviation of poverty said Mr Sajid Jokhio, Provincial Minister of Zakat and Ushr on the Opening ceremony of Benazir Card .he said that It was initiated to pay unconditional cash benefits of Rs 1000/- to underprivileged families, worst hit by the high inflation especially of food items resulting in reduction of their purchasing power.
Ghulam Nabi Babr Director Karachi Benazir Income Support Programme said that BISP to distribute cash grants amongst the poor of eligible BISP families through “Benazir Cards” throughout the country in contribution with the Banks instead of post offices to avoid delays and other complaints in the present delivery mechanism.
Due to various complaints in delivery mechanism of BISP benefits to the beneficiaries, BISP was directed to adopt more efficient and technologically advanced mechanism of delivering BISP funds through the BC.
For this very reason BISP is issuing “Benazir Cards” to deserving families so they could receive financial assistance in a transparent manner with the help of modern technology without human involvement to maintain transparency.
To get their “Benazir Card”, BISP beneficiaries should contact their local card distribution centre along with our letter and CNIC’s. He added further that BISP is a transparent and objective programme designed to serve the people indiscriminately.
Mr Pervaiz Iqbal Director HQ BISP Sindh explained the various initiatives of BISP i.e. Waseela-e-Haq, Waseela-e-Sahat, Waseela-e-Rozgar as well as Waseela-e-Taleem which are designed to uplift the living standards of poor and to enable them to achieve financial self-sustainability.
BISP has introduced numerous revolutionary steps to bring about a socio-economic change in the society and to eliminate poverty from the country on long term basis. He said that BISP has introduced modern delivery mechanisms i.e. Mobile Phone banking and Smart Cards to ensure transparent and effective disbursement of financial assistance among the beneficiary families.
In the Last Mr Sajid Jokhio, Provincial Minister Zakat and Ushr along with Mr Ghulam Nabi Babr, Director BISP Karachi , Mr Pervaiz Iqbal Director HQ Sindh , Ms Zeeba Baloch, President PPP Women Wing District Malir and Mr Shafquat Ali, Media Officer BISP Sindh distributed 05 Benazir Card amongst the BISP Beneficiaries.
