Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Agriculture, Arbab Ayub Jan has said that more than 80 per cent population of the province was directly or indirectly depend on the agri-sector and consequent upon the non-existence of industries in the province, the graph of unemployment was on rise.
Therefore, if we have to rely on agriculture sector we should adopt modern irrigation system and latest technology for the development of this sector.
This he said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 3-day International Seminar on “Dairy Science Park” held at Agriculture University Peshawar on Monday. The seminar beside representatives of four provinces and Azad Kashmir, Pak Army, Federal and Provincial Governments was also attended by representatives of NGOs and international institutions.
The Provincial Agriculture Minister said that the agriculture sector was on top of all sectors in the developed countries purely on the ground that they have fully concentrated on the research wing. He said that a large number of agriculture scientists and specialists were ready in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and there was a great demand of them in the whole world including USA and Australia.
He said that the past governments did not heed to this basic sector while the present government has started various gigantic projects in Agri sector which would have positive effects on it in future. He regretted that we still import milk from Punjab inspite of the fact that we have Dairy Farming and Animal Husbandry Departments.
Arbab Ayub Jan hoped that the workshop would be successful in its objectives and the agriculturists would concentrate on dairy farming which would ameliorate the lot of a big portion of the population of this province.
The function was also addressed by acting VC Prof. Dr. Naeem Khan and Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry Prof. Subhan Qureshi and highlighted the aims and objectives of the workshop.
Later on, Arbab Ayub Jan inspected various stalls established by various departments and evinced keen interest in it.
