Karachi, September 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Owais Muzaffar has said that spray works would continue for removal of dengue virus on constant basis for which 36 vehicles purchased by Rs 1 Crore 96 Lac have been handed over to KMC.
He said this while talking with media representatives in the ceremony held in Chief Minister House on the occasion of handing over new purchased spray vehicles to KMC. On this occasion Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inaam Memon, Advisor to CM Sindh Rashid Rabbani, MPA Sajid Jokhio, Waqar Mehdi, KMC Administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro, Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui, Sr. Director Municipal Services Masood Alam and other relevant officers were present.
Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Owais Muzaffar speaking at the ceremony said that the problems between KMC and DMCs have been resolved and this campaign would now be run jointly. He said the campaign would be carried on till the end of dengue and Provincial Health Department and Government of Sindh would provide KMC with support if required.
He said KMC was carrying out spray work with 24 vehicles before this and now spray campaign in whole city would be run with 60 vehicles. He said the vehicles, loaders and dumpers which were out of order would be repaired and brought on roads and would also be used for public welfare works. He said that disciplinary action would be taken against the officers who were found in negligence in their responsibilities.
He said that cleanliness campaign would continue in the city and staff would be increased gradually and constant provision of petrol and diesel for vehicles would be ensured so that no hindrance would be faced in spray campaign.
He said better treatment facilities should be provided for dengue patients in hospitals and all government hospitals should ensure provision of medicines for patients. Earlier KMC Administrator Saqib Soomro during a briefing informed that KMC was carrying out spray campaign in various areas of Karachi on daily basis and after the addition of vehicles this campaign would be enhanced particularly spray would be performed in rural and suburban areas of Karachi on daily basis.
He informed that cleanliness campaign with the collaboration of KMC and District Municipal Corporations was underway and thousands tons of garbage was being collected from various areas of Karachi and shifted to landfill sites. He also informed that a good quantity of medicines for dengue spray were available.
