Sugar Advisory Board Decides on Sugarcane Crushing Season Start Date


Islamabad: The Sugar Advisory Board has announced the start of the sugar crushing season across the country from the 15th of this month. The decision was made during a meeting of the Board in Islamabad, chaired by Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain.



According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister stated that the decision followed consultations with all provinces and the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association. He emphasized that the move aims to ensure sugarcane growers do not face any difficulties and will help guarantee the smooth and timely supply of sugar in the market.



Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted that the government is making decisions in the best interest of farmers to prevent their exploitation. He assured that payments to farmers would be made before the commencement of the crushing season.



The Minister also warned that strict action would be taken against any sugar mill that fails to start crushing on the prescribed date. Furthermore, he directed provincial authorities to ensure strict monitoring of all sugar mills to safeguard the rights of farmers.



Participants in the meeting welcomed the decision and appreciated the government’s timely intervention.
