Shahdara, Dotara Dams Planned to Combat Water Shortages in Federal Capital

Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed today that Shahdara and Dotara dams have been envisioned to tackle water shortages in the federal capital.

According to Radio Pakistan, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry responded to a Calling Attention Notice moved by Tamkeen Akhtar Niazi and others, stating that WAPDA has already prepared feasibility studies for both dams. These studies are expected to be completed within the next three to four years. Additionally, a PC-I has been developed to replace the existing water pipelines in Islamabad with new ones. To address the declining groundwater levels, rainwater harvesting has been mandated for all new buildings, including houses.

In response to a point of order in the National Assembly, Minister for Water Resources Mueen Watto affirmed that all rivers are currently flowing normally, and there is no immediate threat of flooding in the country. He further mentioned that the water storage capacity in the Tarbela Dam remains stable.
