Settlement of J&K dispute indispensable for durable peace in South Asia: OIC FMs

The OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir has adopted a joint communique reiterating the call on international community to hold India accountable for the heinous crimes being committed in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Its meeting was held in Islamabad on the sidelines of the 48th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

Paying tributes to the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiris for their right to self-determination, the OIC Contact Group reaffirmed its support for the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people for realization of their inalienable right to self-determination and freedom from Indian occupation.

The OIC Foreign Ministers declared that the final settlement of Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions and a UN supervised plebiscite is indispensable for durable peace and stability in South Asia.

The Contact Group called upon Indian to reverse all illegal and unilateral measures taken in the occupied territory on or after 5th August, 2019, and halt and reverse the illegal demographic changes.

Condemning the crimes against humanity perpetrated by Indian occupation forces in IIOJK, the OIC meeting demanded India to allow international organizations including the OIC special envoy visit the occupied territory and conduct an independent investigation there against well documented cases of human rights violations including extra judicial killings and sexual violence.

The OIC meeting paid rich tributes to the unflinching commitment of late Syed Ali Geelani to the Kashmir cause in the face of persistent persecution and tremendous personal hardships.

Demanding release of all political prisoners, repeal of discriminatory laws and lifting of all sorts of curbs and restrictions in the illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Contact Group asked India to take concrete and meaningful steps for the full implementation of the UNSC resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

The OIC Contact Group also decided to remain actively seized of the matter.
