Islamabad: The Senate on Friday unanimously passed a resolution condemning Israeli aggression against Iran. The resolution, moved by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, affirmed the House's support for the Iranian people and their right to defend themselves.
According to Radio Pakistan, the resolution emphasized that the Israeli attack is a violation of United Nations principles and international norms, jeopardizing regional and global peace and security. It strongly denounced Israel's actions against Muslim nations, particularly Palestine and Iran.
The resolution accused Israel of being responsible for numerous Muslim deaths, especially in occupied Palestine, and highlighted the ongoing violence against civilians in Gaza over the past two years. It criticized the lack of response from the Muslim world, which it claims has emboldened Israel to target Iran.
In other Senate proceedings, discussions began on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. Opposition Leader Syed Shibli Faraz initiated the debate, urging solutions for the power sector's circular debt and advocating for increased funding for dam construction. He expressed concerns about the Federal Board of Revenue's expanded powers and their potential impact on business and investment.
Additionally, Irfan-ul-Haque Siddiqui called for higher education budget increases and the development of cultural institutions. Senator Shahadat Awan emphasized the need for rural development and proposed increased funding for key infrastructure projects and sectors like health, education, and environmental protection.
The Senate also passed 'The Societies Registration (Amendment) Bill, 2025', introduced by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar. The House adjourned to reconvene on Monday at 3 pm.
