Punjab Govt Launches First E-Taxi Scheme

Islamabad: The Punjab government has officially launched its first e-taxi scheme, marking a significant step towards modernizing the state’s transportation sector.

According to Radio Pakistan, in the first phase of the initiative, a total of eleven hundred electric vehicles will be distributed to applicants. Of these, one thousand vehicles are allocated for the corporate sector while one hundred are designated for individual applicants. Additionally, thirty e-taxis have been reserved specifically for women, promoting inclusivity and empowerment.

Applications for the scheme can be submitted online via the email address e-taxi.punjab.gov.pk. The vehicles will be provided through a five-year interest-free installment plan, with the Punjab government covering the entire interest cost. This financial model aims to make the scheme accessible and affordable for a broader section of the population.

Transport Minister Punjab, Bilal Akbar Khan, stated that the scheme is expected to generate employment opportunities, promote environment-friendly transport options, and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles in the region.
