Punjab Government Initiates Measures to Combat Environmental Pollution: Kanwal Liaqat

Islamabad: Punjab Parliamentary Secretary for Environment and Forests Kanwal Liaqat has announced that the Punjab government is implementing measures to address environmental pollution.

According to Radio Pakistan, she stated in an interview with correspondent Qasim Bukhari that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, significant steps have been introduced to manage smog and reduce air pollution across the province.

She mentioned the introduction of anti-smog guns in Lahore, a first for Punjab, as part of efforts to control smog. Additionally, only brick kilns utilizing zig-zag technology are allowed to operate in Punjab.

Kanwal Liaqat also noted a complete ban on single-use plastic bags thinner than 75 microns, enforced under the Plastic-Free Punjab Pledge. The Environment Testing System is being used to check vehicles, and strict actions are planned against those contributing to air pollution.

Furthermore, she highlighted the CM Punjab Green Credit Program (CMPGCP), the first initiative of its kind in the country, aimed at promoting a sustainable green culture in Pakistan.
