President Stresses Social Integration and Equality at Doha Summit


Doha: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the need for social integration based on equality, solidarity, and respect for human rights. Addressing the World Summit for Social Development in Doha today, he called for the eradication of poverty in all its forms, promoting full and productive employment, and decent work for all. He stressed the importance of ensuring that global institutions are inclusive and responsive, especially to the needs of the Global South.



According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to placing people at the center of its policies. He stated that Pakistan’s vision for inclusive and sustainable development aligns with the spirit of the Doha Declaration. The President pointed to Pakistan’s flagship Benazir Income Support Program, which has empowered over nine million families with income assistance, healthcare, and educational support. He praised the program as a model for the world, noting its transformative impact on millions of lives.



He further stated that the sustainable development goals remain within reach for Pakistan. The country aims to raise its literacy rate to ninety percent and ensure every child is in school. Through the National Internship Program, Pakistan is working to empower its youth.



Addressing the impacts of climate change, President Zardari noted Pakistan’s investment in resilient adaptation to ensure growth that is green, inclusive, and long-lasting. He also highlighted the new threat of the weaponization of water, expressing regret over violations of the Indus Water Treaty by the other party, and affirmed that such tactics cannot and will not succeed.



In closing, the President called for the resolution of the Palestinian and Kashmir disputes in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
