PM Shehbaz Sharif Breaks Ground for Shaheen Chowk Underpass in Islamabad


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif performed the groundbreaking of the Shaheen Chowk Underpass to ensure smooth traffic flow in the Federal Capital. Addressing the ceremony, he emphasized the importance of maintaining quality and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the city. The Prime Minister stated that all development projects, including hotel construction, must adhere to international standards. He commended Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Capital Development Authority, and contractors for executing projects while upholding quality and excellence.



According to Radio Pakistan, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, speaking at the event, said the Shaheen Chowk Underpass will help resolve traffic congestion and its design has been crafted to complement the beauty of Margalla Road. He noted that the government encourages the private sector to invest in the construction of five-star hotels in the federal capital, with three such hotels currently operational in Islamabad.



The Interior Minister also shared that a State Guest House and a Capital House are being built in the city. He mentioned that work on one of these projects has already begun, while construction on the other is scheduled to start in January next year. Additionally, he said the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and CDA are jointly developing a hotel, with construction set to commence on January first this year.



Mohsin Naqvi announced that the government plans to build a new convention centre in Islamabad to accommodate international events like the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. He highlighted that the new facility will be four times larger than the existing convention centre, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be invited to perform its groundbreaking in January next year.



Discussing ongoing infrastructure projects, the Interior Minister mentioned that the construction of the T-Chowk flyover is expected to be completed by December this year, and he will request the Prime Minister to inaugurate it.
