Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to explore and expand collaboration with Indonesia in joint ventures of investment in mutually beneficial projects. He was speaking with Indonesian Defence Minister, Lieutenant General (Retd) Syafrie Samsudin, who visited him in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, the meeting highlighted the deep-rooted historical, brotherly, and friendly bilateral relations between Pakistan and Indonesia. The Prime Minister recalled his cordial meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subiantuo at the sidelines of the G-8 Summit in Cairo, conveying his best wishes to the Indonesian President.
He emphasized the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Indonesia, rooted in shared cultural, religious, and historical bonds. The Prime Minister noted that both countries support each other at international forums and reiterated Pakistan's commitment to enhance bilateral cooperation with Indonesia in various sectors, including economic, strategic, trade, and defense.
During the meeting, both sides stressed the importance of enhancing multi-faceted bilateral cooperation. The Prime Minister also reviewed ongoing initiatives under the Pakistan-Indonesia Defence Cooperation Agreement and agreed to accelerate the implementation of key areas of mutual interest.
On the occasion, Indonesian Defence Minister Lieutenant General (Retd) Syafrie Samsudin conveyed the best wishes of Indonesian President Prabowo Subiantro to the Prime Minister and the people of Pakistan. He reiterated Indonesia's desire to further strengthen defense ties with Pakistan and explore possible areas for cooperation, particularly in defense production.
