Islamabad: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has emphasized the need to diversify Pakistan’s exports beyond the textile sector. Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad today, he said Pakistan possesses significant export potential in the pharmaceutical, mining, and mineral sectors.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister underscored that boosting exports, empowering youth, upholding meritocracy, and investing in human capital are essential prerequisites for the country’s progress and prosperity. He highlighted the importance of expanding the focus to new sectors to ensure sustainable economic growth.
Talking about key features of the Uraan Pakistan program, he said Environment and Climate Change, Energy, and Infrastructure are the hallmark of the initiative. This program aims to address critical areas that will aid in the enhancement of the country’s export capabilities.
Highlighting Pakistan’s recent diplomatic achievements, Ahsan Iqbal mentioned that the country is expanding trade and investment ties with the United States, the European Union, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. These efforts are expected to open new markets for Pakistani products and services.
He added that agricultural scientists and researchers have been sent to China to study advanced farming technologies and mechanization techniques. This initiative seeks to improve agricultural productivity and introduce modern practices in the sector, potentially opening up new avenues for exports.
